site stats

FIRST! SORRY ABOUT THE DAMN BIG SPACE AT THE TOP - I’M TRYING TO RESOLVE IT!! Now to my post…

After reviewing my first virtual month of traffic (^), I discovered an issue that everyone should be aware of - webmaster and non webmaster alike.

I’m referring to the second row - “Traffic not viewed*” - and its explanation at the bottom. At any given moment online you have thousands or maybe even millions of bots roaming the web looking for you. What I mean by that is - they want your information. Name, address, EMAIL ADDRESS, phone number, etc.

Now you don’t have to worry about waking up to a pair of red eyes hovering over your bed once they get your information, but you do have to worry about identity theft, invasion of privacy and the ever-notorious SPAM. The stats above show that bots alone generated approx. 1/5th the “normal” page views I received (which this month was mostly Justin and I hitting refresh - which doesn’t really count but thats not the point!). 1/5th! Thats ridiculous!

My point is..be aware of your surroundings folks - because a webbrowser and a keyboard is just a boat to the spam-gloryland. Everytime you register for something or put in your email address, the hunters are out. The internet is no longer a haven for cheesy webpages and nerds with social disorders - it’s a utopia for advertising opportunistic fucks.

Friendship

Posted in General on June 29th, 2004

I got an email from my Dad today saying a friend of his died out of the blue - started with stomach pains and died a mere few hours later.

My dad doesn’t have a lot of buddies so it’s hit him pretty hard - and it’s made me realize that whatever stupid problems I’ve had over the past couple of days are just that - stupid. You won’t hear me discussing those problems anymore, lifes too short for that mess.

In other news - I start my CDL Training tomorrow for ECU Transit, am too poor to hire an electrician to fix my feedback problem to fix my HSI issues, and yeah - making it through the next couple of months is going to be hard.

Heres a song - Ben Folds - “Luckiest”

Ya know…after being with all of those people for 3 days straight - I’m kinda lonely… :/

Charleston, S.C.

Posted in General on June 27th, 2004

Apologies for the lack of updates over the last few days but I’ve just returned from my short and only vacation for this summer.

Some old friends from high school and their collective spouses (or soon to be spouses ) made plans a few months ago to have them all come see me here in Vegas for a night, then we all head down to Charleston, S.C. for the weekend. As it turns out, Buck and Mandy weren’t able to make it but Bonnie and Justin drove an extra 5 hours to see me. We got up early the next AM and made our way down to the Howard Johnson in N. Charleston.

Upon arriving we got our rooms, met up with the rest of the crew went downtown to the market to browse around the vendors - but they were packing up so we roamed and made our way back to the hotel following a long day.

Day 2 started off good with us hitting Patriots Point and touring a WWII Sub, Destroyer and the USS Yorktown - an aircraft carrier. Justin and I probably took 75 pictures, but we only toured about 1/4th of the Carrier because we were all worn out. We did get a great picture though of the group so - as soon as I can get that scanned it’ll up in the gallery . We hit the beach after touring and damn was it fun - everybody had a good time there. (Speaking of which, nice to meet you Tracy and Amanda and your kids - oh and you too Greenhorn - haha)

The night ended a bit rougher than it should have when we had to deal with some unnecessary and uninvited annoyances - it really kind of disappointed me and a lot of other people that part of our vacation had to be blown because of things we tried to avoid in the beginning. Frankly - next time we’ll be more strict and direct about who is invited and what we all want as a group - and those people who have disrespected what we asked can stay home next time. It’s noones fault, but I have a feeling that feeling is a general consensus and well…it seems more often than not that I’m willing to speak out on what others aren’t. Afterall…anyone who knows me hasn’t really ever known me not to say what I really feel..

With that said - water under the bridge and all is well. Despite the bumps, I had a great time and really look foward to getting back down to Charleston again. It’s a great city and hell -I’d consider living there one day (and I’ve always despised the thought of living in “South” Carolina). It’s definately on my list now as transfer options!

Next time though - I won’t have anyone come see me first because I really feel sorry for Justin and Bonnie having to drive me 5 hours up here to GVegas and then another 5 back to Shelby. Hope they get there alright and I hope Mandy and Buck got home alright. I should be in posession sometime tomorrow the digital pictures taken from the trip, they will all be in the gallery. O and go eat at Bubba Gumps in Charleston…pretty cool place. “Stop Forrest Stop” ;)

Thats it for now - Gnite Folks.

O and Justin! No Joy on the modem transfer - lost signal 3 times in a row tonight after I got home - but I’m praying it’s just a area wide fluctuation instead of a matt-wide one.

Saving Private Ryan

Sniper

Posted in General on June 21st, 2004

Alright so I had a pretty good day today…

I woke up a bit late this morning, called up the DMV to see how busy there were (so I could go take my CDL exam for my transit application) - come to find out they have about a million people there. Odds are I would have sat there for 3 or 4 hours just waiting to take a stupid exam…

..so instead I took a ride with big Tom up to Rocky Mount to do a little shooting. He’s fresh out of a marine core tour of duty in Afghanistan - he’s a sniper, so I knew I was in for some great advice. I’ve never fired a rifle before and I’ve never had any marksman training - but I’ve really gotta tell ya - I surprised Tom and I really surprised myself.

The weapons we fired today included:

the AK-47 (a nasty Russian weapon whos accuracy sucks but it packs a punch)
AK-47

an AR-15 (which is the equivalent to the military M16 - hot rifle)
AR-15

the Daewoo K2 (another equivalent to the military M16 - just a Korean version)
Daewoo K2

Firing all three of these was a lot of fun, but the AK handled like shit (just a good suppressive fire weapon), the AR-15 had a lot of kick but I got pretty with with it in the standing-unsupported position, and the K2 was a real smooth shot because of the larger stock. I had a great time and..whattya know - I can shoot.

Catching up..

Posted in General on June 19th, 2004

I realize it’s been a while since I’ve updated and I apologize, but I’ve been concentrating on establishing a format to this site, along with design, etc.

Lots of things have happened and there have been things I’ve wanted to post but, just haven’t had a chance as stated. The most important things are, I resigned from my job. It’s kind of a long story but its probably for the better - I have however lined up a new job hopefully and will get that lined up to work with the rest of my summer schedule. I don’t wanna jinx it though so I won’t say much more.

I’m really enjoying living at my new place, and I had a good time at the Roberson family reunion. I’m headed to Charleston next weekend with some friends from high school (hooray) and their badass spouses (Justin - Buck…fellas, what can I say?)

Then in mid-July I’ll get to go to Nags Head for a few days, so maybe this summer won’t be so bad at all. I’m glad Meaghan is back from Mexico too, she seemed to have a good time. Maybe I”ll jack some of her pictures and post here.

Ok..early morning tomorrow.

Alpha Entry

Posted in General on June 8th, 2004

This is my initial entry for av8ur.com - so it will be short.

So a few short notes here; first: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUSTIN! (www.wantmoore.com)

..oh and more props to him for providing me with FREE hosting (so long as I agreed to guinea pig status) and for providing me with FREE tech support on writing this new code.

In other news..I’m all moved into my new townhouse, just have a few last things to hang and a garbage disposal to have fixed and then things will be fine. I’ll update later because right now I’m talking to most of you who will probably read this anyways and I’m also watching a tv show on the new AIRBUS A380 (whoa!)
