Half Life 2

Posted in General on January 29th, 2005

While I’m waiting for what seems like the 7th stage of installation of my fresh new copy of Half Life 2 - I thought I’d just mention that this crap is getting out of hand. What I mean is - product security. After I installed the 5 discs, I had to register the game before it would allow me to acces and play, then I had to download updates, only to be stopped again while “steam decrypts game files for play”, only to be stopped AGAIN for another update.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m all about having the latest and greatest when it comes to my games, their patches/updates etc..but cmon! Anyways - I’m not complaining because I finally got it for $39.

Anyways - just wanted to note the day I finally got this blockbuster game.

“Little Bird”

USS San Fran

Here at av8ur.com I like to bring light to ANYTHING I find remotely interesting in hopes that readers might find it the same way…

Remember that Sub accident briefly mentioned a while ago - right in between all the other bullshit on TV? Here are some pictures after this very expensive boat crashed into an uncharted mountain and what was likely Flank speed.

Here’s the article:

The nuclear-powered US submarine that ran aground in the Pacific last week, causing the death of a sailor and injuring 23 others, ran head-on into an undersea mountain that apparently was not on the navy’s charts, a US defense official said Tuesday.

The USS San Francisco, a Los Angeles-class attack submarine, arrived at its home port in Guam under its own steam Monday as the navy investigated the mishap.

A senior defense official, who asked not to be identified, told AFP initial reports were that the submarine was cruising at high speed at a depth of about 120 meters (400 feet) Sunday when it ran into an uncharted sea mountain.

Typically, a vessel’s commander is held responsible for such mishaps, but the official said that might not be the result here if an investigation concludes that it was an uncharted sea mountain and the skipper’s judgments were sound.

“Our hearts and prayers and sympathies are with the family of the sailor lost in that accident, his shipmates and all others injured and affected,” Admiral Thomas Fargo, commander of the US Pacific Command, said in Hawaii.

“As we are still gathering facts, it would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause,” he said. “But I assure you that the Pacific fleet will conduct a rapid and a thorough investigation and we’ll let you know what happened once that investigation is complete.”

The navy said the submarine’s nuclear plant was not damaged and its hull was still intact.

But the sonar dome in the bow of the vessel was partly flooded during the collision, the official said.

The sailor who died Sunday of injuries sustained in the accident was identified as Machinist Mate 2nd Class John Allen Ashley, 24, of Akron, Ohio.

Twenty-three other crew members on the USS San Francisco were being treated “for a range of injuries, including broken bones, lacerations, bruises and a back injury,” Petty Officer Alyssa Batarla told AFP.

The accident occurred on Friday, some 560 kilometers (350 miles) south of Guam, when the vessel was conducting underwater operations on its way to Brisbane, Australia with its crew of 137, the navy said.

Thanks to Rolsskk for the heads up on the pics!

Phantom

Megan and I went to see Phantom of the Opera today at the 1p matinee - but it really seemed like opening night because the place was nearly full! For any fan of this musical though - it’s a must see. Like any other movie there were a few ‘cuts’ in the original play - probably due to time constraints. Lord of the Rings blew the top off movie caps though and it seems like movies these days are getting longer and longer..this particular one was around 2 1/2 hours - it didn’t feel that long though.

Hopefully I can get out and see a few more movies in the future - some good stuff coming out including Kingdom of Heaven. Watch for the trailers!

**I am curious though about one thing - were they actually singing(some or all?) or was that soundtrack partially dubbed - say Christine’s part. I really wouldn’t be surprised if that was Sarah Brightmans voice dubbed over Emmy Rossum. I can’t tell a difference atall between the soundtrack and that movie…

Beta Entry

The new year has started with a bang - sorta. I’m taking, by far, the heaviest course load of my college career. I could name off names, descriptions, etc - but in reality I’m taking 18 semester hours of stuff that I really shouldn’t be taking more than 6 semester hours of each at any given semester - together. Why? I’m tryin to graduate G!

WIN 30/30

I gave into the urge and purchased my second firearm a couple of weeks ago. I don’t have tons of money to throw around - so I really wait it out and look for a good deal (to my knowledge anyways - I’m no pro at this) and pick up something I want and can afford. This time I picked up a Marlin 30/30 lever action rifle as seen above. Pistols are fun and I’m sure I’ll get lots of practice in the future with them - but I really enjoy a long barrel as well. It’s a completely different shooting experience..

Speaking of shooting - check out a couple pictures from my first round with my pistol in Lucama, NC at Megans house. She got in on the action too and wouldn’t give me my gun back!!

^Post action shot - isn’t Megans camera badass?

^Megan & her Dad looking on…

^Me - .40 S&W

I just have to say - this is going to be by far - 3 months of hell. I’ll update as I can. Hope you like the pictures.
