Arrests

Work yesterday was very busy. It’s public now so I can talk about it a little bit. A local chief of police and one of his lieutenants were under investigation by the FBI for drug charges and an additional firearm charge for the chief. We (the US Marshals) were involved because the arrests were made in our office in a controlled situation.

By 11:25 a.m. Thursday, both men were in the custody of U.S. Marshals at the courthouse

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s department and the FBI get credit for this investigation but I just wanted to plug the US Marshals a little bit. Arresting law enforcement officers is not an every day thing and it’s something I won’t forget. I don’t mean to sound enthusiastic about the situation because theres nothing good about it - but I won’t lie when I say I’m excited about everything I’m learning and seeing.

Heres the article - I took Lt. Cox’s mug shot.

**Edit

I meant to mention that Captain Stanley was there when they were arrested and was unaware of what was going to happen until it did. I talked to him for a while afterwards and of course he was shaken and mad. I’ve heard they’ve made him interim police chief in Bethel - something well justified in my opinion. Good luck Chief!
