UPS sucks monkey nut…

UPS Sucks. I googled (a few interesting comments there) that phrase and my first hit was a blog stating the same, so I guess I can’t say this is an original thought.  But back to it…my buddy Justin decided to be cool and loan me a laptop he had laying around for me to use during my recovery.

This morning around 10:30 I hear my doorbell. Now I know UPS doesnt know I just had back surgery, but I assume they’ll at least ring again or knock again about the time I hit the stairs. WRONG. The bell rings, I slide the laptop off my lap, logroll off the bed and head down the stairs.  Stairs aren’t really a problem for me right now, I just can’t turbo down them like a 14 year old kid. When I hit the front door I unlock and open it only to see the shit brown UPS truck speeding off. I push the screen door open and try to wave him down, but I suppose taking off at Charlotte Motor Speedway speeds requires a lot of concentration or something…

So I’m pissed, Justins pissed when I tell him and we both already know our hands are tied…there is nothing getting that truck back here same day; but we foolishy try anyways.  He calls first and talks to a lady who gives the typical robot response and is completely useless. Then I call and talk to possibly the same lady who responds with a pause long enough for a super bowl commerical when I ask her why drivers dont stand at a door longer than 10 seconds.  Then she apologized, which made me feel a lot better if you can’t tell, and told me they would try again tomorrow. She also informed me that UPS was only required to attempt one delivery per day.  That’s funny considering the customer PAID them to deliver the package, and the sooner they deliver it the better for me AND them. It’s good for business, fuel use, etc etc. Whats wrong with a second attempt in one day? I dont know…I didn’t bother asking because I was afraid I was going to get another dumb answer which probably would have led to me throwing my phone across the room in an attempt to hang up as ‘mean as possible’.

Instead I just said ‘thank you’ and hung up; there shall be SOME civility in the world..even if I have to supply it while I’m getting the shaft.  Heres a note to UPS; I’ll never use your company again by choice, and I will use your competitor(s) even though they employee bumbling idiots too.

I talked to my buddy Greg from Fed Ex yesterday about this ordeal just to get his opinion. He said for him personally, he has a cell phone but will definitely not give that number to fed ex lol but I know for a fact, at least in Shelby, the UPS drivers have cell phones for communication to UPS because as one was dropping off our church computers, they were on the phone talking about deliveries. Maybe he just happened to have a personal one but I definitely think it should be a requirement that UPS supplies for the drivers for cases like this. He could have gotten a block down and come right back. Greg also says that he gets his paycheck docked for any lost packages on “his watch”. Isn’t that insane?!?!?! I guess that’s why your lovely UPS driver didn’t just leave it. Crazy stuff!

My apologies. I’ll never send another package via UPS as long as I live (if I can help it). You know, they screwed over the company I work for several years ago when their UNIONIZED drivers went on strike. We’ve been loyal FedEx Express & Ground customers ever since.

[…] I’m thinking of starting my own package shipping business. It may appear at first that this is an already crowded marget segment, but I believe there is room - room for improvement. Last week, Matt ranted about UPS and now it’s my turn to raise a ruckus about FedEx Express. […]

I work for UPS in IS . Since they went public a few years ago the company has completely changed. The stock had been extremely stable as the price was controled by the Board. Now it goes up and down like a Yo Yo. Some people have been working for the company for 20-30 years and have lots of money tied up in stock. They have been treating the employees more and more like a huge liability and I am not even a driver. Those guys have it really tough but at least they have a Union. IS does not have a Union so they can really screw you around. If they don’t like you they can give you a coding assignment that is a three day job but only give you one day to do it. You have to work all kinds of overtime to get it done and you don’t get paid time and a half just your regular time. People normally have to work 50-60 hour weeks it is just what they expect.

Try using UPS to ship to Canada. They charge brokerage fees for all cross border shipping I paid 4 dollars for an item on ebay and 23 dollars to cover the brokerage fees plus the 7 dollars for the sellers overpriced shipping fees. 30 dollars extra for a 4 dollar sticker.

Never use UPS especially to ship from US to Canada
