2006 Finale

As 2006 winds down I wanted to get one last entry in. I just returned to ENC from a nice Christmas vacation with my family and friends. Thanks to my Mom for giving me a bed and the rest of my family for such great gifts. Thanks also to my friends Bonnie & Justin for another bed while I participated in a quasi-swarm team crash course in network deployment. You may now add ‘networking tools’ to my master wish list.

It’s been an eventful year with my back surgery, recovery (thanks Megan!), and short stint with Target. Starting January 2nd I’ll be busy with a local police academy and applications. Hopefully someone will pick me up when I graduate. Times are rough; but it seems a higher power might just be lookin out for me because things seem to be slowly falling into place.
Merry belated Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Farewell 2006

Tesla Motors

Posted in General on December 19th, 2006

Tesla Motors, a company out of California, has unveiled their newest electric cars. I must say they have improved drastically..

fullfromabove.jpg

Features include a 250 mile range per charge, 0-60mph in 4 seconds (eat that Porsche), and fully integrated cockpit with touch screen interface featuring range, GPS, & security features to secure the vehicle or lock it into valet mode and limit range, speed to prevent joyriding. The price is outrageous, starting at 95,000, and climbs up over 100k when you add the bells and whistles.  Over all though the concept it neat and seems to be headed in the right direction for being clean with the future of personal (and hopefully mass) transport.

Take a look at their site - it’s well laid out and to the point.  I’m interested to know though how they solve the problem of stopping during long trips for lengthy recharge sessions.

“Armed & Moronic”

Posted in General on December 12th, 2006

The chief editor over at Officer.com wrote a good article on the upcoming show Armed & Famous following E-list celebrities thru a police academy.

This new show follows the highly successful CSI franchise, where the world has learned that DNA is routinely extracted from a discarded cigarette butt, analyzed in less time than it takes to plug the latest remedy for erectile dysfunction, and the suspect associated with the DNA located and arrested by people who aren’t even cops, and who only work one case at a time. Hey, if you saw it on TV, it must be true.

..several retread celebrities have been sworn in as reserve officers of the Muncie, IN Police Department.

I’m entering a police academy Jan 2nd; exciting, but dangerous given my former problems.

Megan worked very hard, and today received early acceptance to graduate school today. Out of 100+ applicants, they accept 20. :)

Vista? Think twice..then don’t think Again

I received my final issue of Maximum PC a few days ago - lucky thing too because the first Ed Word article threw me for a loop.

Did you know that in the Vista End User License Agreement (EULA, the thing most of you click I Accept too without reading) makes it illegal for you to install and activate your legal copy of Windows Vista more than twice?

The language reads, and I quote;

“The first user of the software may reassign the license to another device one time”

This blows my mind. I actually CONSIDERED upgraded to Vista, but as an avid “reformatter” and new hardware junkie I can’t justify spending $200-400 dollars on something I can utilize only twice. Whats worse is most people who reach the point of needing a fresh installation just go out and buy a new computer, which is a total waste. As a result, my having a problem with this won’t scratch the surface of policy changing profits for Microsoft.

Thanks to will@maxpc for the heads up article - maybe write ups like that and blogs like this will encourage Microsoft to rethink this. C’mon Gates, you got some things right and some things wrong with XP. Lets not forget the things you got right!

**EDIT**

Well - after I made the effort of blogging this, I found another article stating Microsoft had “capitulated” (nice) on the issue and changed the language in the EULA to read; You may uninstall the software and install it on another device for your use. You may not do so to share this license between devices.

Thats more like it. I’ll leave this entry as belated support for the cause ;).

This IS what I pay $20 a month for:

It’s still blowing Justin’s out of the water considering his current problem.

To continue on my post from yesterday. The “uneducated troops” in Iraq have responded. Bwahaha.

I read yesterday a Democrat in the Senate told ABC news that Kerry blew it in ‘04, and guessed he was shooting for ‘06 as well. I may not agree with everything President Bush does, but this is what Democrats get for going with the “anyone but Bush” policy. Take note that he’s now canceling appearances with Democratic candidates during these last few days before the midterm elections.

You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.

-John Kerry

Thank God this guy wasn’t elected president.

Wings over Wayne (Seymour Johnson Air Show)

Posted in General on October 15th, 2006

Today I drove down to Seymour Johnson AFB with Megan and Brett for my first military air show. Justin totally missed out as his flight won’t return until tomorrow.

Here’s a few shots as teasers. We didn’t stay for the Thunderbird show, and I think the Raptor was a no show.

Again some ‘formation’ flying - these pilots were very comfortable with close quarters. Along with banking the big birds at a full 90 degrees ;)

Thats all for now; I may post more down the road. In other news, the Moore’s fly back tomorrow and tonight Erebos died :(. RIP Erebos.

Before, During, and After

Posted in General on October 10th, 2006

As most of you probably know I was involved in a fairly high speed wreck back on the first of September. I blogged all the unsolicited ‘personal injury’ mail I received but I never got around to posting pictures of the damage to my 4Runner.

So here you go;

A few days after 1 September

My ‘rental’..great on gas and quite the smooth ride for a qausi ZZ-Top Auto

And the finished product. The paint on the rear door is original, everything else is fresh. Beyond that slightly “shinier” look you can’t really tell the difference. Bland and Newsome does excellent work!

In other news; I finished my physical therapy regiment last week and am basically on my own right now to get myself into shape and shoot for BLET again.  We’ll see…

Make sure you check wantmoore.com for updates (by me, per them) on Bonnie and Justin in Russia; theres very little there right now on the trip as I’m still awaiting their first mission update. (plug: trans-atlantic elbow nudge to the Moores).

And thanks to Megan for helping me pick up my car tonight, I’m sorry I made you late to your meeting :(
